Today on Focus on the Family, Dr. James Dobson interviews Princeton Professor Robert George about his provocative article titled "Obama's Abortion Extremism." In it, he examines the presidential candidate's chilling record on life issues. Robert P. George, McCormick Professor of Jurisprudence; Director, James Madison Program in American Ideals and Institutions at Princeton University. Professor George is a member of the President's Council on Bioethics and formerly served as a presidential appointee to the United States Commission on Civil Rights. He was Judicial Fellow at the Supreme Court of the United States, where he received the Justice Tom C. Clark Award. He is the author of In Defense of Natural Law, Making Men Moral: Civil Liberties and Public Morality, and The Clash of Orthodoxies: Law, Religion and Morality in Crisis. He has published numerous scholarly articles and book reviews. Professor George is a recipient of many honors and awards, including a 2005 Bradley Prize for Intellectual and Civic Achievement and the Stanley Kelley, Jr. Teaching Award from Princeton's Department of Politics. He holds honorary doctorates of law, ethics, letters, science and humane letters. Professor George is the 2007 John Dewey Lecturer in Philosophy of Law at Harvard University.
Professor George’s article specifically details Obama’s past, present and future actions related to the subject of abortion. I am thankful for his research and share the article today in my support of life. I realize this is not the only issue to be considered when we select a candidate to support and cast our vote for, but surely as believers in the Lord Jesus it is a very important issue that must be weighed heavily as we prayerfully make the decision.
Christiananswers.net features an article, Abortion in the Bible and Church History which states, “A number of ancient societies opposed abortion, [2] but the ancient Hebrew society had the clearest reasons for doing so because of its foundations in the scriptures. The Bible teaches that men and women are made in the image of God (Genesis 1:27). As the climax of God's creation mankind has an intrinsic worth far greater than that of the animal kingdom placed under His care. Throughout the Scriptures, personhood is never measured by age, stage of development, or mental, physical, or social skills. Personhood is endowed by God at the moment of creation - before which there was not a human being and after which there is. That moment of creation can be nothing other than the moment of conception.”
Let us not be so quick to support a candidate because race, party affiliation, popularity and charisma but rather let our support be with the candidate whose fundamental beliefs are the most in agreement with the standards God has clearly made known in the Holy Bible! I urge you to read Professor George’s article and examine for yourself the views of Senator Obama concerning abortion. The sixth commandment clearly instructs us not to murder and murder is the primary purpose and function of abortion.
Now of all times, we should put those verses into practice. We spout them so flippantly when times are good. We quickly allow these verses to leave our lips when others are going through a hard time and need some advice but when the hard time hits the average Christian we totally forget these verses. We begin to worry and look to the charismatic politician to help us put food on our table, cloths on our back and keep the lights on. How quickly we forget those songs some of us sing so joyously in church, ‘the Lord will make a way somehow, when beneath the cross I bow’ or ‘Jesus will work it out’, ‘count your blessings name them one by one’. Do we sing those psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs in vain? Do they only apply when times are good and fade and become meaningless when times are bad? How fickle we become.
We cannot support a Pro-life candidate because his economic platform doesn’t tickle our fancy. We support the candidate we think will push the government to give us more hand-outs. Give us more is our cry, not realizing that inorder for the government to give her citizens more, she must tax them more. When we put a pro-life stance on one side of the scales and economics on the other, life should win every time. When we stand for godly principles God will supply our needs according to His riches in Christ Jesus. His riches are far more valuable than those of our government.
How often have we quoted, from this passage in Ephesians chapter six, For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.
How we point out with great enthusiasm that God’ is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think’ yet we will not trust Him during these hard times to continue to do what His word says of Him. We must stand with God on all the issues, not just the ones we pick and choose. He isn’t right about one but wrong on the other, He is right all the time.
The Psalmist has put it so clearly in Psalm 33:4-12
For the word of the LORD is upright, and all his work is done in faithfulness. He loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of the steadfast love of the LORD. By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, and by the breath of his mouth all their host.7He gathers the waters of the sea as) a heap; he puts the deeps in storehouses. Let all the earth fear the LORD; let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him! For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm. The LORD brings the counsel of the nations to nothing; he frustrates the plans of the peoples. The counsel of the LORD stands forever, the plans of his heart to all generations.Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people whom he has chosen as his heritage!
Our voting is not just a political duty it s a moral choice and it should bring glory or glorify God. I found it so well written in the Founders Journal “God calls us to glorify Him in all that we do. “Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God” (1 Corinthians 10:31). The Apostle Paul calls us to consider our responsibility glorify God in all that we do—not just in the “spiritual” activities of life.
There are two main focal points in this verse: our doing and God’s glory. The latter is to be the goal of the former. All of our doing is to be with a view to God’s glory. As creatures designed by God and for God we are obligated to bring glory to Him
The Bible also instructs us on how and when we are to give glory to God. We are to glorify Him: in our inner lives and in our bodies—“For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s” (1 Corinthians 6:20); with our praise—“Whoever offers praise glorifies Me;” (Psalm 50:23); through our works and daily life—“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven” (Matthew 5:16); in our suffering—“Yet if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in this matter” (1 Peter 4:16); even in our death, as we learn from John’s commentary about the Jesus’ prediction of Peter’s death—“This He spoke, signifying by what death he would glorify God (John 21:19).Christians are to glorify God in everything we do. That is to be our purpose and our goal.”
Will your vote and mine glorify or bring glory to God? I think at the end of the day that has to be our main concern on all the issues. Which candidate, for president and vice-president, governor, senate, congress, county council or any position, has a platform that will stand more closely inline with the word of God? We must all prayerfully consider this as we go to the polls. My friend as you prepare to vote pray and “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6

Many believers in the Lord Jesus I know and have heard of are pro-Obama because they always vote Democrat. Others support him because they feel it is about time a black man fills the office of President of the United States of America, they want to help Obama make history as not only the first black candidate to win the endorsement of a major political party but to go on and become the President. Others just don’t like McCain and would vote for anyone who opposes him. There are sundry reasons given to support one candidate over another but during this time of economic difficulty money and the economy rises to the top for so many.
I agree that the the failing health of our economy is something to be concerned about. I agree that there has been a huge lack of stewardship on the part of several administrations and of our financial intuitions; this problem didn’t just happen overnight. Greed and lust for power have existed from the first sin. There are Bible-believing Christians who are so concerned about the economy that they see no other issue during this election. They believe Obama to be the answer to our financial problems and the one to whom we must turn to to get our nation out of economic turmoil My friends, neither John McCain nor Barrack Obama would be the ones we turn to for that kind of help, they cannot solve this problem.
When hard economic times come we are not to look to politicians to provide the relief we may need. It is not to them that we should look to but to our God. It is He who owns the cattle on a thousand hills, It is He who promised to supply our needs according tohis riches in glory. Isn’t He the One who said in Matthew 6:24-34
“No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.
“That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing? Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are? Can all your worries add a single moment to your life? “And why worry about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith? “So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. “So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.

This is taught many times by direct commands. For example, Psalm 22:23 says, “You that fear the Lord, praise Him! All you descendents of Jacob, glorify Him and fear Him all you offspring of Israel.” The same call is made in Psalm 29:1–2, Give unto the Lord, O you mighty ones, Give unto the Lord glory and strength. Give unto the Lord the glory due to His name; Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness.”
